Canon Pixma iP5000 Review

The world of printers is a very competitive one. There are a number of different companies who create absolutely stellar printers, but if you don’t do your research, you may find that you’re having a very difficult time selecting one printer over the others. In this review, we’ll cover the good, and the bad, about the Canon Pixma iP5000.

What It Is

The Canon Pixma iP5000 is a printer that is designed to function well in a number of different settings. It’s meant to compete against other home based printers as well as other small business printers. The company wanted it to be a great general-purpose printer, but one that also had some good photo printing capabilities. Of course Canon knows photos as they have a thriving digital camera section of their business as well.

The printer is fairly decently sized, weighing around 15 pounds and 16.5 inches at its widest part. It features a 150 sheet auto feeder tray that doesn’t require any extra clearance, which is perfect for people who have only a small amount of room around their desk. It’s driver-centric and has a PictBridge port as well as front panel LEDs to help you to quickly recognize which tray you’ve selected. As for the ink cartridges, you’ll find that this printer has one of the more refined options that Canon has come up with, as the ink cartridges can actually print in such high quality that any photo printed off of it looks amazingly nice.

The Good

If you’re looking for a competitively priced printer, one that will allow you to print out your documents in very high quality, as well as one that can print great photos as well, this may be a really good option for you. This printer is also extremely quiet which is perfect for people who are looking for a model that is so quiet that you can barely hear it.

The Bad

While this printer is fairly decent, there are some bad aspects that could factor into your decision. The biggest drawback is if you put glossy paper into the bottom tray, the gloss will actually be stripped from the paper before it gets all the way through the printer, which is not what anyone would want.

The Verdict

A decent printer, the Canon Pixma iP5000 and Canon ink cartridges allow home owners and small business owners to get refined printing options for a very good price.
