Who Sells the Cheapest Color Printer?
Are you in the market for a new color printer? Before you purchase a printer - even a cheap one - do your homework and think about what tasks you are planning to use the printer for. Do you have some fantastic photos you want to print and give as gifts or plaster all over your walls? Or are you looking for a printer that prints text like a high-end laser printer with maybe a few photos thrown in here and there? As you start to think about how you might use the printer, don't forget to think about the costs involved as well. It would be such a disappointment to purchase a real cheap printer only to find out later the cost of the ink or toner it uses makes the national debt look like chump change. We have compiled a list of some of the cheaper color printers to help you get started. Remember we are not endorsing one printer or company over another, just helping you out with information we have compiled.
The HP Photosmart C4680 might be a decent selection if you need an at home all-in-one (AIO) for copying, scanning, and printing. As inkjet printers go the text, graphics, and photo quality are all par or better with the HP Photosmart C4680. For the price the speed for both business applications and for photos is relatively fast. However, the running cost is relatively high it will look less and less attractive the more pages you print. We found the HP Photosmart C4680 to range in price from $60 - $100.
When Epson came out with the Stylus NX models, most were pretty impressed. The only real drawback was the poorer text quality. This year's Epson Stylus NX515 is a real improvement in that department and many others. Designed primarily for the home, you'll get amazing photo quality and texts from the model at a price of just $80 in some cases.
The latest design from Canon is the Canon Selphy CP780 Compact Photo Printer. One of the most portable models they've ever made, the model is wholly dedicated to printing off your photos thanks to the thermal-dye technology involved. Last year's CP760 got a serious upgrade here, and the new model is a bit faster to boot. Expect to pay about $150 for this one.
The Lexmark Impact S305 is a new adventure in versatility. An all-in-one that allows for printing, copying, and scanning, it also features wireless 802.11 b/g connectivity action. It's pretty fast, too. Expect 33 ppm on average. Those 4 x 6 holiday photos will print in just 24 seconds. The Vizik ink technology behind this line is also a real benefit. The S305 has an ink cartridge for each color, so they can be replaced one by one as you need to. Cost here runs around $120 at most stores.
The Epson WorkForce 31 is in the same price range, but this one is made for those with a small business or a home office. One of the many all-in-one models on the market today, it has the speed necessary to do business fast as well as some other great features like an auto document feeder.
